God Does Impossible Things

As we reflect on the Christmas story and all that God did for us, our Bible Journaling Scripture tells us, “For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37 ESV)  The angel had just told Mary she was going to conceive and bear a Son, the Son of God.  For Mary, this was an impossibility in human terms, as she was a virgin.  However, God did the impossible in her life that affected not only her life, but the lives of every human being ever born or will be born.

God is in the business of doing the impossible in our lives.  Things that most people would look at as merely coincidence is a God-incidence, His reaching down into our lives to do the impossible. There have been recorded situations where the doctors gave up hope, with nothing they could do for the patient, and God stepped in and did the impossible in healing that person, situations where a person finds themselves in an impossible place with no solutions available, then God does the impossible, and that situation has turned completely around for them.  I’m sure we each could give stories of how God stepped in when everything looked hopeless and provided answers where we could find none.

As we look at this Scripture, the Enduring Word website states, “The point is clear. More literally, one could translate this for no word of God shall be powerless. God will absolutely perform what He has said.  i. The words, ‘for nothing’ (literally, ‘no word’) ‘will be impossible for God,’ recall the divine promise of a son addressed to Sarah (Genesis 18:14 [Septuagint]) and, in so doing, provide another confirming example of God’s ability to carry out His promise to Mary.’ (Pate)”  Mary was quick to respond, “Let it be to me according to Your Word.” (Verse 38)  She understood that whatever God promised would be fulfilled and she accepted His Word to her.

I find great comfort in this section of Scripture.  When God says He can do what I cannot or solve a situation that seems hopeless, I can trust that what He says, He will do.  In my life, God brought about a solution to an impossible situation that I thought I never would be able to experience. When I found out that I would never have children, it was so hard for me.  I couldn’t understand why God would take that opportunity from me.  Adoption options fell through so being a Mom was totally out of the picture and I thought I would never know what it was like to have children.  But God provided a way for me to be a Mom.  When I married my second husband, he came with a whole family, three kids and six grandkids!  What I thought would be impossible, God made possible!  I have amazing kids, and even though I didn’t give birth to them, I look at them as my kids. I am so grateful for their mother, who raised them to be awesome, loving, caring people, and a blessing to all around them.  My grandkids are also awesome and it’s amazing to watch them grow up and see them come to know Jesus.

God is in the business of the impossible! Luke 18:27 tells us, “And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (KJV)  In this instance, the rich young ruler had to turn away when Jesus told him to sell all he had and follow Him.  It seemed like an impossible situation for a rich man to become a Believer, but Jesus tells the people that even in this instance, what seems impossible is possible with God.

Are you in prayer for a loved one to come to Jesus?  Does it seem like they never will turn their heart over to Him?  Trust God!  He does impossible things!  Are you face to face with circumstances that seem hopeless?  God can change everything around so that your situation can be resolved for your good.  He does the impossible!
