There are times in our lives when we find ourselves looking for direction. Life has a way of setting us in situations that are just too difficult to navigate on our own. However, God has an answer to the question, “What do I do now?” In today’s Bible Journaling Scripture, He says, “I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.” (Psalm 32:8 CSB)
Sometimes, God takes us back to school and we find ourselves in His classroom. My Mom and Dad were teachers, and some students really applied themselves and listened to the instructions given by my parents, and then there were those, who no matter what my parents did, just refused to listen. Then some tried the best they could, and still, they couldn’t understand the instructions. Those were the students my parents took the extra time to help and guide so they could succeed in their schoolwork. God is the same with us. He takes additional time to help us follow the path He has laid out for us.
Our Scripture says that God will teach us, instruct us, and guide us through every area of our lives. He also says He will guide us with His eye. The Enduring Word Website states, “The idea is of one who waits upon another so attentively that a mere look at the eye indicates the will. A butler waiting upon his master at dinner can illustrate this; the master need only look at the salt shaker and the butler understands that he wants it. God promised that for those who diligently seek and focus on God, He will also guide.” We must be walking close to God to be guided with His eye. If we are far away, we won’t be able to see His guidance.
When we come upon situations that seem too hard for us, God is there to guide us. I found this to be true when my first husband had two strokes, and epileptic seizures, ended up in a nursing home for six years, and died. I found myself doing things I had never done before. I couldn’t ask my husband because he wasn’t able to help me. So many decisions had to be made, and I felt completely over my head in the situation, not knowing which way to go. But during all that was going on around me, God let me know that I could do this, and I wasn’t alone, He was with me. Eventually, I found that I was stronger than I thought I was, and I could make challenging decisions on my own. God taught me to stand on my own two feet, look to Him for help, and walk. My first husband’s life verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (ESV) It was a reinforcement to me that all I needed to do was trust God! Now that I am married again, if anything were to happen to my husband, I know I can manage whatever comes at me, and that I am not alone.
God loves us, and He wants us to trust Him, to rely on His leadership. He promises to teach and guide us through any situation in which we find ourselves. “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21 NASB 1995) With each step He is leading us, teaching us, encouraging us. So, when you find yourself faced with a situation that seems to be more than you can handle, remember that God is with you and He will guide you, instruct you, and stay by your side. You have nothing to fear, He will help you. It is then that you will learn just how to trust God in all situations.
