We have a God who keeps His promises. He has shown that throughout Scripture from Genesis through Revelation. We have seen in the Garden of Eden that God promised Adam and Eve to provide a Redeemer to save mankind from their sin. (Genesis 3:15) God made another promise, this time to Noah, “I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.” (Genesis 9:15 ESV) In today’s Scripture, God promises to save Noah and his family from the flood, and through Noah, continues His covenant to provide a Redeemer to save the world from sin.
There are many instances of God honoring the promises and covenants He has made with mankind. He made a covenant with Abraham that was passed down to Isaac and Jacob, and was confirmed with the Israelites when they were led into the Promised Land. (Psalm 105:8-11) That promise continues today. He made them a great nation that was officially established and recognized in 1948. God told Abraham that his seed would number more than the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5), and today Jewish people are living in all corners of the globe, and many of them are making their way back to Israel and making it their home. Israel has become a focal point on the world stage, and we have seen God’s Hand at work in protecting Israel from her enemies.
God continued to keep His promise when Jesus arrived on earth. He was the Redeemer that God promised in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 3:15) Jesus became the sacrifice for the sins of the entire world from the Garden to the end of time. Jesus took upon Himself willingly the sins of each person who has ever lived, who lives now, and who will ever live. Those sins are each person’s past, present, and future sins. He took our penalty for sin. This was part of God’s promise in the Garden! But Jesus’ death on the Cross isn’t the end of that promise; Jesus died, was buried, and on the third day, rose again. He not only became our Sacrificial Lamb for our sins, but He also conquered death, Hell, and the grave, so that we do not have to fear death and Hell because He has taken those keys of authority away from Satan. This was God’s promise to all of mankind!
We can take advantage of that promise by accepting the sacrifice Jesus made on the Cross. When we come to God, ask Him to forgive us of our sins, acknowledge that we believe Jesus is His one and only Son, that Jesus died, was buried, rose again, and ascended to Heaven and is now sitting at the right hand of the Father, and ask Jesus to come and live inside of us and be the King on the throne of our heart, we will be saved. God will honor His promise. Jesus will come and change us from the inside out. He will give us a new outlook and a new attitude, and we will become a new person. (2 Corinthians 5:17) If you have never asked Jesus to come and be the Lord, Master, and Savior of your life, you can do it right now; there is no better time. You will find it will be the best decision that you have ever or ever will make. Just as Noah found that God kept His promise to him, you also will find that God keeps His promises to you as well.
