Periodically, God will wake me in the middle of the night to let me know He wants to talk to me. This morning is one of those times…it is 5:40 in the morning and I’ve been up for an hour.
He woke me with a song, which is usually the case. This morning it was an old song from the 1970’s called, It Wouldn’t Be Enough. About a month ago I went to a Bible Journaling class at one of the local Bible Bookstores in our area, and as a practice sheet I decided to do John 3:16. God impressed upon me that His love is what was behind Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for my sin. So I drew a cross and on the cross I put red hearts like blood drops on the cross to signify God’s love for us.
I have let this sit and not put it in my Bible, kind of stewing on this for a while. This morning that song tied it all together. As humans, I think we sometimes forget what that sacrifice was all about. Yes, we can quote John 3:16 forwards and backwards, almost like breathing. But do we really meditate on what that verse is all about? Jesus loved us SO MUCH that He gave up everything. He endured the most painful, excruciating death anyone could endure because of love. No one forced Him; His life wasn’t taken away from Him, He GAVE it! Willingly!
The song says that if I was wealthy, had all the money in the world, it still wouldn’t pay for His sacrifice! Nothing I can do, can repay Jesus for what He did for me. That is a concept so beyond my comprehension….that He would die for me just because He loved me…that He would pay for my sin debt, just because He loved me. How unbelievable is that? How awesome is that?
I started this blog because I wanted to make an impact upon people, even if it’s just one person, about the goodness of God, about His love for us, and about how we can enjoy a sweet relationship with Him by accepting His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior. I hope someone is blessed by what I write, is encouraged to know and understand how very much God loves them, and to seek Him out, daily, to walk with Him, talk with Him, to have the most awesome relationship with Him, and to thank Him for everything He has done for us.
Starting a relationship with Jesus is so easy…God didn’t make it difficult. It’s as simple as saying, “Jesus, I am a sinner. I deserve the punishment You took for me on the cross. Please forgive me, make me a new person, come into my heart and change me, and I will live for you forever. Thank you for Your sacrifice on the cross for me, and thank You for Your love. Amen.”
I have included the words of the song and posted a picture of the finished page. I hope that if you haven’t made that decision to give your heart to Jesus that you will decide to do so soon. It will be the best decision you ever made in your entire life!
It Wouldn’t Be Enough
VERSE 1
If I had all the riches this world had to give
All the comfort that it brings
Never needing anything
I could search the whole earth over far and wide
Trying to find this precious love
That was sent down from above
CHORUS
And it wouldn’t be enough
No it wouldn’t be enough
To buy one splinter on the tree that Jesus died on
And I couldn’t pay the price
For one single drop of blood
That was shed for my salvation
VERSE 2
If I had all the riches this world had to give
And I gave it all away
Not a penny to my name
To some beggar on life’s dark and lonely street
All this kindness found in me
Could not win eternity
REPEAT CHORUS
And it wouldn’t be enough
No it wouldn’t be enough
To buy one splinter on the tree that Jesus died on
And I couldn’t pay the price
For one single drop of blood
That was shed for my salvation
