Today’s Bible Journaling takes us to John 14:6, “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” In today’s world, we quite often hear that there are many ways to God. For someone who is seeking and doesn’t know much about Spiritual things, it can be very confusing and very disheartening.
But Jesus told His disciples that there was only one way to God and that was through Him! Satan would have us be confused, disoriented, and led completely astray by taking us from the One Path that leads us to God, the Father. He brings confusion and disinformation and leads us down a road that ends in eternal destruction. He would have us believe that there are many ways to gain a relationship with God, that we don’t need to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. The argument that it is such a narrow point of view pops up, and what many may not realize is that following Satan’s advice only leads to sorrow, confusion, pain, and eternal death.
When I was a little girl I saw an artist’s rendering of Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (KJV) It showed a crowd of people at the bottom of the picture at a crossroads. One fork of the road was wide and there was a great crowd of people following down the road, but at the end of the road it dropped off into a large abyss full of fire and destruction, it was the road to eternal punishment and death and there was great misery among the people. The other fork of the road was narrow and few people were traveling on that road, but it led to a bright city shining in the sky…Heaven, and there was great rejoicing when the people got there. That painting had a big impact on me obviously because I still remember it to this day. I believe it was one of the avenues God used to draw me to Himself.
Jesus is the entry point of eternal life. It is through accepting Him into our hearts that we can travel that narrow road to Heaven. Jesus tells us that HE is the WAY!
Jesus also says that He is the Truth! The Bible tells us that Satan is a liar, and the father of lies (John 8:44) and it says that there is no truth in him. He can not do anything else but lie to us. But Jesus is the Truth. Every word He speaks is truth. His Word, the Bible, is truth, and we can depend upon His Word! Therefore, when He says that He is the ONLY way to have a relationship with God, the Father, it is true!
Jesus also tells us that He is the LIFE. Through accepting Jesus’ death on the Cross, His burial, and resurrection, we have eternal life. Only through Jesus can we gain that eternal life! Again, many think that Christianity is a narrow point of view. But what they don’t understand is, none of the other “ways” to God bring satisfaction. There is no peace, there is no joy, there is only misery, and a deep longing in their hearts for something more, and those “ways” lead to eternal death. The thing is none of the other leaders of those religions can say their god lives. They all can go to a grave somewhere and see where their god is buried.
We serve a living Savior! His tomb is empty, and He rules from His throne in Heaven, and He rules in our hearts when we allow Him to. He gives us peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7), He gives us joy unspeakable and full of glory (I Peter 1:8), and He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). He desires to have a relationship with us, and He wants us to be with Him in Heaven, and He is right now preparing a place for us. (John 14:1-3)
If you haven’t asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, now is the perfect time. Just pray and ask Him to forgive you of your sins, acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior, believe in your heart that He died, was buried, and rose again for you, then thank Him for saving you. Then, tell someone about the decision you have made. Jesus said, “But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10”33 (ESV) Let others know the change He has made in your life and experience the new life in Jesus!
