Today we will look at how Satan tries to keep us from what God has called us to. Jesus said to evil doers, “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44 NLT) Satan doesn’t want us to fulfill the calling God has on our lives, and so he uses different methods to keep us from our calling.
One thing we need to know, EVERY WORD FROM THE DEVIL IS A LIE! Jesus was talking to the religious leaders of His day, and they were saying they were children of God when in reality, they belonged to Satan. Jesus told them He came from God and that God was His Father, and they became very upset and wanted to kill Him. The religious leaders were acting just like the Devil, who comes to kill, steal, and destroy, (John 10:10) and Jesus tells them that the Devil is their father. You’ve heard the adage, “Like father, like son?”, well, in this instance, it fits! They believed the lies Satan spoke and displayed his characteristics. Jesus called them out and said, “You do the deeds of your father.” (John 8:41 WEB)
Satan lies to us as well. He will tell us, “You’re not good enough!”, “You can’t do that, you don’t have the education, no one will listen to you!”, “You’re not beautiful enough, no one wants you!”, “You’re not enough…” All of these are lies to keep us from stepping out into the calling God has for us. We need to recognize his lies. How do we do that? By looking into God’s Word! Look at what God says about us. We know that God speaks the truth, and we can believe what He says. When we believe that we can’t do something, God’s Word tells us, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 KJV) When we feel like we aren’t good enough, the Bible says, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV) When the Devil bombards us with his lies, we can fight back with the truth of Scripture.
We need to remind ourselves of this fact, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me…” (Psalm 138:8) When God calls us to something, He will give us what we need to accomplish that calling. We need to believe what God says, and call Satan out as a liar. We fight back with the truth of God’s Word and step out in confidence and with faith to complete our calling.
Are you hesitating in taking that first step into God’s calling? Are you being bombarded with lies from the enemy of our souls? Stand tall, and be like David against Goliath, call Satan out as the liar he is, fight back with Scripture, and declare God has called you and He has your back and will help you! Then with boldness, go after what God has called you to do. Don’t believe the Devil’s lies.
