I Will Pour Out My Spirit

This past week I have been seeing Facebook posts about the Asbury Revival that is taking place right now.  In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, a revival has broken out at Asbury College in Kentucky.  It began with a chapel service Wednesday, February 8, 2023, and as of this writing, it is still going.  When I saw the posts and heard accounts about what is going on there, this verse came to mind. “And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all people; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.” (Acts 2:17 CSB)  The most phenomenal thing about it is, the revival is spreading to other college campuses across multiple states.

I am amazed at what God is doing.  Our country is badly in need of this revival.  I’ve often heard from many Christians, that this generation will be the generation to usher in the great revival that is spoken of in the Bible, that right before Jesus comes back, a great awakening will pour out all over.  In our verse today, Peter was referencing a passage in Joel where Joel prophesied a great awakening in the last days.  Joel describes a time of great spiritual darkness. Jesus told His disciples that the end time would be just as in the days of Noah. (Matthew 24:37-39)  As we look at the world around us, we see just what Jesus was talking about.  It seems that everything is steeped in evil.  Society is holding on to that which is degrading, sensual, and evil. What the world calls entertainment is of the lowest degree of depravity that can be imagined.  It is in this environment that the Bible tells us that a Great Awakening will occur, and people will come to salvation by the thousands.

God has told us that He will pour out His Spirit upon all flesh.  We should be available for Him to use us to bring those around us to Jesus.  What are we doing to further the Gospel?  Are we witnessing to those around us?  Are we availing ourselves of the move of the Holy Spirit?  Are we working on our own spiritual life so that we draw closer to Jesus, and are a reflection of Him?  We must be the conduit through which the Holy Spirit works to draw people to the foot of the cross.  “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 ESV)  We need to be aware of the drawing of the Holy Spirit to use us to reach those who are lost.  “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 KJV)

I pray that the revival going on at Asbury College sparks such a revival around the country and the world that our world is changed, and hearts are turned back to God.  When that happens the very atmosphere will be changed.  Attitudes will change, hearts will change, peace will prevail, and evil defeated.  My prayer is, “Lord, bring Your revival fire upon us.”
